In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, St. David’s HealthCare hosted balloon release events to honor patients and survivors.
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women (second to skin cancer). While the medical profession has made tremendous strides in the struggle against this disease during the last quarter century, the battle is far from over. An estimated one in eight women who reach the age of 80 in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her life.
The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman’s chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 98 percent.
St. David’s HealthCare—a leader in breast care in Austin—performs thousands of screening and diagnostic mammograms each year using digital mammography technology.
We encourage women to schedule a mammogram and/or to learn about the importance of breast cancer screenings. For more information, visit stdavids.com/service/breast-care.
