SXSW 2014 impacted this community like never before. Tragically, nearly two dozen people were injured and four people died when a suspected drunken driver plowed through a crowd outside a downtown music venue. Of the 23 injured, 17 were cared for at a St. David’s HealthCare hospital, 13 at St. David’s South Austin Medical Center and four at St. David’s Medical Center.

One of those injured was 18-year-old Mason Endres, a Liberty Hill teenager and avid music fan. Endres suffered a broken leg, fractured neck and broken nose, and was treated at St. David’s Medical Center.

Days later, St. David’s Medical Center served as an unexpected SXSW venue as Jared & The Mill, Endres’ favorite band, surprised her by playing an intimate set for Endres and her family members in her hospital room.

The Austin American-Statesman and KVUE-TV (ABC) captured the private, emotional SXSW performance for Endres on video.
