St. David’s HealthCare proudly recognized three team members—a physician, an employee and a volunteer—earlier this month as the healthcare system’s 2014 Frist Humanitarian Award recipients. The Frist Humanitarian Awards recognize employees, physicians and volunteers of hospitals across the country affiliated with HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) who demonstrate extraordinary concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and their communities. Presented annually, these awards recognize the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas F. Frist, Sr., a founder of HCA.

Andrea Campaigne, M.D., an obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) physician at St. David’s Women’s Center of Texas located at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, received the award for her significant contributions to her patients and community. She is a founding member of Doctors for the Cure, a program of Susan G. Komen Austin, and she serves on the executive boards of Pregnancy & Postpartum Health Alliance of Texas (PPHATX) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas.

Robert Guy, a pharmacy technician at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, was recognized in the employee category for his dedication to pediatric and neonatal patients in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) pharmacy, as well as his service in the community. Guy joined the Marines in 1986, serving in many countries, while also volunteering with a variety of organizations, including Toys for Tots. Now retired from the military, he continues to serve the community as a member of the Boot Campaign. Most recently, he rallied his pharmacy staff to collect 12 bikes and other toys for four needy families with children during the holidays.

In the volunteer category, St. David’s HealthCare recognized Kai Lin as the 2014 Frist Humanitarian Award winner. For nearly two years, Lin has been a discharge and emergency department volunteer at Heart Hospital of Austin, while also attending The University of Texas at Austin. Lin is always warm and welcoming to patients and visitors, and his kind and gentle personality puts them at ease. Lin’s dedication to helping others is not limited to his work at Heart Hospital of Austin. He volunteers with a variety of organizations aimed at improving the community, including the Red Cross and Capital Area Food Bank.

The dedication and generosity of each winner embodies the characteristics and values of St. David’s HealthCare. These three award winners are now in the running for HCA’s National Frist Humanitarian Award.
